The Irish Sea, FINALLY (Day 6)

As I write this I am lying below deck on the spinnakers as it is too wet and rough to get out of foulies and lifejacket. Well we finally made the Irish Sea during last night after what seemed like an age of the lack of wind not featuring on the forecast.

Wind got up just before we rounded the corner so we changed down headsails in the lee of the island only to find when we emerged the wind was lighter than expected, so sometime later we changed back up again. We rewarded ourselves with a celebratory cream egg and a cup of tea. Forgot to mention last nights fish pie was a culinary triumph. So that is the upbeat bit out of the way as the wind and seas got up around 10 this morning and since then it has been grim.

We both agreed the finish cannot come soon enough then we can get hot showers instead of cold salty ones. I will finish on an upbeat note with a thanks to Green Dragon for the call of encouragement –

it meant a lot guys! More at the finish 75 miles to go!

  1. Well done girls, only 61 miles left as I write! Uncle Ken sends his best wishes. I’m reliably informed that a Dash 8 goes to windward better than an X-332 and am looking foreard to catching you up in Wicklow. I’ve packed a danbuoy just in case of driver error – always best to be prepared.

  2. Now only 47 miles to go – hate to say it but we are off to bed. Thinking of you on your wet spinnaker and hoping you soon get that hot shower you are thinking about.
It seems amazing that things are still so close after over 700 miles.
    Well done

  3. I can confirm that a Dash 8 goes to windward faster than an X-332! I am posting this from the coach to Wicklow. Before we set off,
the driver showed me a video of the race start he made on his mobile phone! He also knows about the 2 girl crew on Pyxis!

Looking forward to seeing everyone safe and sound in Wicklow.
