TRAINING Qualifications

There are two certificates acceptable for the survival Training these are;

  • ISAF Offshore Safety Course. Details of the Irish Sailing Association (ISA) / ISAF Offshore Safety Course & providers are available here.

  • Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Survival Training run in accordance with STCW 95. This course / providers are approved by Department of Transport.  Details available on their website www.transport.ie.  This course is not as comprehensive as the ISAF Offshore Safety Course as it only covers how to abandon ship & what to do thereafter.  The ISAF course concentrates on how to avoid having to do this!

The course we would recommend as the most appropriate First aid certificate for sailors is the ISA’s own Emergency Care Training Course. Details are available here.

Some Course Providers with suitable courses available

- South East Cruising School - Sail Training/mileage, ISA Emergency Care, SRC, etc

Please note that it is the skipper's responsibility to ensure that the criteria are met and that a certificate or letter of attendance from an establishment recognised by the ISA/RORC should be provided.
